Introduction
Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds [ Full title is PHANTOM BREAKER: BATTLE GROUNDS - Cocoa's Nightmare Attack-] Is a spinoff game of the Phantom Breaker fighting game that released in Japan back in 2011. I haven't played it since I live in the states and you know, importing it probably isn't worth it. Think of pretty much any fighting game that has come out of Japan in the last 3 years, and you pretty much have Phantom Breaker. I hear great things about it, but that's beside the point.
PB:BG is a co-op 2d beat em up. General side scrolling. There is no platforming, which is reasonable. Think of Golden Axe, Guardian heroes or Streets of Rage. It's currently only for the Xbox 360 and as far as I know it supports 4player couch co-op as well as online co-op. Level caps off at 50 for base game and you are allowed to assign points to level up your characters attacks and abilities.
Game Modes, Characters and Other
Local Game
Story Mode - Play through the story as narrated by the character you chose. You can only choose one of the four main characters. Depending on how far you've gotten on that specific difficulty, you can change the level if you happen to just really like it.
Arcade Mode - Play through the game without the story. You cannot choose level, only difficulty. You can play as any character you have unlocked and attempt to level them up more. It is a single player only mode
Co-op. Mode - Pretty much the same as Arcade Mode, Kick ass with friends and get as far as you can. You can choose Level and Difficulty in this mode
Battleground Mode - Duke it out with other players and obtain points for the leader-boards
Xbox Live Game
Co-op. Mode - Kick ass with friends and get as far as you can. You can choose Level and Difficulty in this mode. Online with other people, but the community pretty much matches Harmony of Despair in that there is not many games going on, or if you do find a game, the connection is terrible. These things happen. It's mostly because people don't know of the game or don't care about it to even check it out. Though, that's what this introductory guide is for, I guess. Let you all know about the game.
Battleground Mode - Duke it out with other players and obtain points for the leader-boards. Except now you're online and the world is a ton more painful for you.
Difficulty
Easy - Minimal amount of enemies and EXP/Points
NormalNormal amount of enemies and EXP/Points
Hard - Increased amount of enemies and EXP/Points. They are harder, obviously
Nightmare - Even more enemies and EXP/Points. It's very difficult to even attempt this mode without having a character past 50.
Nightmare+ Enemies are harder than in Nightmare mode. There are three or four times as many of them and they rarely drop food items for healing. There is no EXP, only points. This is recommended for those who have 50 - 99 LV characters. Purely for leader-board position.
Stages
Akihabara - Acts as a tutorial stage, as well as introductory story.
Daigaku - University of Music
Odaiba - Ship shaped Pavilion
Ikebukuro - Ikebukuro
Shinjuku - Shinjuku
Shrine - Shrine
Demonsphere - Magic Sky??
Escape - Escape
NOTE: Since there is only one path to take on each stage and it's pretty straight forward. [If you kill all enemies on the screen and stand there, it will progress you forward, also there is a giant arrow with GO on it to tell you where you need to be] There really isn't much to say about them. Kill all the enemies and progress forward, try not to die and if you're playing coop, work with your team to amass some good combos.

I think that pretty much sums everything up.
The main game site is 5pb.jp/games/pbbg/en/ From here you can access info about the game as well as the blog, which is in Japanese only.
I pulled all the images used here off of there in an attempt to make this introductory guide to PB:BG look nice. This is the first guide for anything that I have written so hopefully it works out nice enough for you all.
The information on the main site is sort of in broken English. Sorry about that.
