Anyone else playing? What's your take on it?
I'm still not sure what I think of it. On the one hand, just like I said before I even knew anything about it, there was no way it could be anything BUT a massive improvement over SCIV, which is probably among my 3-5 most hated games of all time. On the other hand, that doesn't say much for it.
Liking the new Hilde, training mode is godlike, overall game speed is much improved over 4, and netplay might actually be 'adequate' if it holds up to training mode's delay simulation (haven't tried yet, but this would be more due to SoulCalibur being more netplay friendly, the delay feels similar to what I'd get from SF4).
Not liking that Talim, Yun Seong, and Zasalamel's styles were left out entirely, that character creation is the same flawed pile of crap with a few extra bells and whistles, the clumsy brave edge input (it's A+B+K during a move's startup, rather than doing the move with A+B+K in the first place... but the only A+B+K inputs are BE and CE, so... why?), hate that they're still hanging onto unlockable characters, that they still haven't taken a hint from Guilty Gear and given us a precise display in training mode for JF timing, and that Tira's mood still changes randomly.
I'm leaning towards the positive side, though. For all the decisions I find questionable and questionable things they forgot or decided not to change, it's still a tremendous improvement over III and IV. I just don't know if I like it as much as II yet.
