I've read about this case. The trademark agreement for Scrolls was far too over-reaching and complicated for its own good. If the trademark went into effect, it would have allowed Notch to pull stupid potential stunts like suing Bethesda over their release of another Elder Scrolls game.
Bethesda was taking the only business-wise course of action in taking Notch to court, and Notch has been playing the public for fools by not reading their own trademark agreement.
