Spawn points match based on where you are in the game lobby. Most should know this, just verifying so if you want the shortcut or know if you're in a certain spot!
DISCLAIMER: I mostly play hard so this is from pure memory which fits Hard the most. I will edit the differences if any are required.
Death will after 1 minute exactly laugh, and start flying around transparent, summoning death scythes at you while you go through the stage. He has a preset health bar, it is around 550-600 hp. In most all my instances. (I do not know one hundred percent if more players will effect it or not to have more. It doesn't seem too bad if it does.) If you take out that full bar, he'll go back into his room and wait for you to enter it.
People ask what the spotlight is for in the game still to date with me. New players not knowing or old just not caring. If you cross the spotlights on the left side, with the right side. (It takes appox. 4 jumps on the switch to be in one of the best positions.)
It will strike Death when he floats around the place dealing around 550 damage to him, enough to send him back to his boss room. Allowing if you have two players to do it fast enough but a heavy hitter can just as well send him away if they get in his or her face.
Vic Viper
At the very top by the water of life, you can drop down to the lower platform and tight to the right side of the tower you hold up, then immediately go back up to the water of life. The Vic Viper will zip across, its a paper airplane. Soon as you hold up if you don't go up right away, you won't be up there in time to get it. It's very fast. So tap up and then dart to get up.
Spawn Point - Player 3 (Requires Shanoa or Julius)
If you're Julius, review our fellow member's Julius guide by diagnosisninja to see a video of how to Swing whip.
However, after you get through the four waves of fire. You may use the magnets and magnet to the very top of the Clock Tower. This will gain you access to take the right side to Death or use the mirror to get to the left, if you're less sure of going across the breakable platforms. This is also where you can get the secret item on the top right.
(NOTE: Since you're player 3, think of others too and open the door above the elevator for them. Its across from the purple chest by the lerajie.)
Elevator Short Cut (Requires 2 People)
On the right side of the Clock Tower there is an elevator, a lever and just above a button. This normally does require two people.
One person, goes into the elevator.
The second person pulls the lever, jumping up to the button and hitting it, which retracts the fire away from the person in the elevator.
Now that first person kills the summon gunman and any other enemies that block your way to a lever just across from the magnets/purple chest. This will open the door above the elevator for the second person to get through, allowing both of you to skip nearly 50% of the map. From here you can take out the Harpies and dullahan, then hit the push button and go over the breakable platforms into Death's room. Or go up to the mirror and jump to the left side of Death's room.
Elevator 'glitch' Shortcut (Requires Winged Boots and up or Richter's Slide kick. [Possibly Omnia Vantus from Julius, yet to try.])
You stand on the same level of the elevator, just on the corner. You crouch and face the lever, if you are in a right position. You should see pull the RT to pull lever box. Turn now to the elevator, pull it. Run forward a few steps until the door jars, and then slide in. I've had a lot of issues doing it, but the timing seems to wait to slide until the door starts to jar, otherwise you're too late or too early. I can't one hundred percent confirm the exact way, but I've gotten to do it much more lately. Though I've gotten pampered with the easier Richter way. Do note, if you are not Jonathan, Alucard, Richter, Julius or Soma(with final guard). You WILL take a hit from the fire doing this alone.
RICHTER WAY! (If Omnia Vantus can do this too, I'll edit this to fit it but think of it the same way just use Omnia Vantus instead of slide kick.)
Do the same as above and when you face the elevator, hit the lever and slide kick right after and you'll land inside the elevator. This is a 100% flaw proof way to do it long as you do exactly how I said. I've never missed this since I learned it.
TO DODGE THE FIRE! (This can work on the two person elevator too, incase of the fact that the second person can't hit the button in time for the fire to shut off.)
Alucard~ Mist just as the fire is about to hit you. Simple.
Richter~ Tackle just as its about to hit and you'll have the invincibility frame as you pass through it safely.
Jonathan~ Danger Knee (possibly Foreward Roll but I don't do that successfully) just as its about to hit, you should be through it just fine. Sonic Strike takes too long to get the inviniciblity frame.
Julius~ Omnia Vantus and you should be just fine as it has a long period of inviniciblity unlike richter and jonathan.
Soma~ Only thing I can think he can get through it unharmed is the Final Guard, Guardian Soul. (Blue/Right Bumper)
Gurkha Master Yorick Jump (Requires Soma + Yorick Skull [max skull gives less chance of failling it])
Across from the elevator door, and under the Dullahan. There is a small arch with a Gurkha Master walking back and forth. This is how you know the spot I mean!
Kill him, once he is dead, jump and toss Yorick from alittle to the left of the middle of this area. If placed right (depending on your level of skull you'll need to reposition), it will bounce on the corner going towards the water of life side with the Harpy and white dragon and such. Now this gives you the slight delay and time if you're on as practiced to have about five-ten seconds at MOST to get there, and jump out towards it. Soon as it bounces off and in air, you jump kick off of it ONCE and land on the breakable platform or to the right with the Dullahan. This will allow you to open the door for others and/or just to allow you to solo Death fast.
Skeleton Gunmen Yorick Jump (Requires Soma & Yorick skull, higher skull less chance of fail.) / Shanoa Magnet (Requires Shanoa)
If you for some reason do not go the right side, whether it be for chests or whatever. As you go up and are in the cog room just below Death's room, you go down pass lerajie and there is a set of Skeleton Gunman. Once they are killed, you can see Shanoa's Magnet, now Shanoa can just jump up on it like that. It is a simple jump for Shanoa.
Soma has to do the jump skull again like in the Gurkha Master one. It'll bonuce over and as it bounces onto the small little upper edge of this area, you jump kick on it to stop it on that small edge. Use it from there to get up just like Shanoa can but with your Yorick. It takes practice but personally I'd advise just using the Gurkha Master yorick shortcut for Soma. Shanoa benefits from this more since she can't do that jump.
1) Fire Trap Purple Chest (requires 2 people, or a Soma, Julius, Richter or Jonathan)
This in general requires two people. The one switch is above the item book in the three sets of spikes. WHile the chest is hidden behind fire. The fire only goes away if one person is standing on that switch.
The closest location to the fire trap is player spawn point number 4. If someone holds the button for you, you can get it. If you're on a purple chest kick and you are in a lobby and player four. The fastest way to get this is to use Jonathan, Soma, Richter or Julius.
As it is fire, just like elevator, you can go through it with inviniciblity. However, its sideways, knocking Alucard out of the running and putting Soma in the running with the Puppet Master soul.
Jonathan can foreward roll, danger knee or sonic strike through the fire.
Richter can Tackle (possibly somersault but no point, just tackle!) through it.
Julius can use Omnia Vantus to get through.
Soma if you jump up and throw the Puppet Master Soul, you can land it through the fire.
Now whoever you used to get through, you just repeat it through the other side of the fire. This allows it to be gotten without two people.
2) Shanoa Purple Chest
I call this one the Shanoa Purple Chest. Why? Because its that one you see as you magnet up the right side when you start at Player Spawn Point 3. Shanoa can get to this chest within a minute, hell, within thirty seconds of the game starting if she's fast.
Now Julius can get to this one now with the magnet whipping (Julius guide), but ANYONE can get this chest. All you have to do is go to the very top of the clock tower where the water of life is and jump down where the magnets are, stay close to the left wall so you don't fall down to the spawn point 3 book but it's that simple. A skilled yorick jumper or alucard with the mist boosting can get up there from below, but its safer to do it from the top of the tower.
3) Clock Purple Chest
Certain times of the day/night the clock hands appear and make perfect platforms to jump from them over to the purple chest that has the Caviar next to it. Now, this seems like no one could get this 100% of the time if thats the only way, but its simple. Long as you can jumpkick, you can get there with any character.
You can use the Harpy jump kicking on her until you can do a double jump over to the area with the Purple Chest. The Dullahan is another great use as he has his armor AND his head to jump off of, but his Ghost Chaser can be nasty if you're in the air like that. Easy target.
The Soma way though is simply just Yorick jumping up there. You can't jump on it fast. Too many who skull jump dive on it and keep it at the ground. What you wanna do is, jump kick on it when its like directly on the button to Death's right door. Then you wait until its at a higher peek and jump kick on it, this will give you higher air and cause it to bounce higher, do it again and you should have enough height if done right. If not, a good key thing to remember when yorick jumping. You can do FOUR jumps off the skull before it vanishes if you do it when you throw it and you do the slow jumps.
Another way is if you have someone who can jumpkick with a whip user. The whip user can let the other jump kick off their head, then the whip user has to upper cut before the other player falls. Once the whip user uppercuts, the jump kicker has to jump kick off the top of the uppercut and land up over to the purple chest area. If you can't quite make it a second uppercut can do it to make sure you're at the peek.
1) Pendulum Water Of Life
Between the Pendulums above the medusa head cog room, and below the spike area with the fire trap purple chest just above that. This will be directly inbetween the Pendulums, four total. Two higher up and two lower. What you wanna do is jump through the pendulums land by the water of life chest, grab it if you have time but if you don't. Jump up so when the lower ones cross the higher ones are out, so you're safe. Then land, grab the chest and get out of there.
DO NOT FORGET THE BUER! Kill him before getting this or he'll roll over you while you're dodging pendulums and grabbing a water of life.
2) Harpy + Skeleton Gunman Water of Life
Above the Skeleton Gunman shanoa magnet for reference. It's across from a green chest located on the left side of the map just before the spikes heading up to Death. Also just after the Pendulum Water Of Life area as well. There's one Harpy lady and one enemy that gives Shanoa her starter glyphs (name slips me.), its hard to miss. Easy to get.
3) Top Of The Tower Water Of Life[/color]
At the top of the clock tower on the right. Shanoa magnets all the way up, just right of the mirror and above the Dullahan.
4) Gurkha Master Water of Life
Directly below the Gurkha Master Yorick Jump on the right side of the tower. If you drop down directly tight to the wall from there, you'll find the water of life. Can't miss it but if you don't drop from above you gotta yorick up to it or such. It's also below the breakable platforms on the right side of Death's door if that wasn't specific enough.
So ya ready to kill Death? If you haven't sent him crying back to his boss room yet, it'll usually take nearly a full minute half the time for him to come back to the boss room. Until he goes solid you do NO damage to him for the real boss fight. Just let him turn solid and avoid him. As when he goes solid his body or scythe DOES damage you, so if you're bashing him and he goes solid, the scythe may hit you.
Note the Shanoa magnets in the room, this helps Shanoa magnet around but don't get yourself caught on them as he flies through or you'll just get hurt. Its better to keep ready for anything.
Attacks
Passive Death Scythes:
He repeatedly spawns in death scythes so always be ready for a possible random one to spawn on you, I personally always keep somewhat moving so that doesn't happen but sometimes move right into one. Best thing to do for this is know how much it does and always heal if you're lower, as it is highly possible one might spawn on you. (This is what Death's soul does for Soma. - Guardian Soul, Right Bumper)
Red Spiral Of..WHAT!
Okay lame name but when he stays stationary and you see red, he starts to summon three red balls, they come nearly directly upon his chest. Then slowly span out, this specific attack WILL continue even if he dies, so pay attention! Never let your guard down. The best thing to do here is time it and jump through them, then wail on him while the red balls are spinning further away. With Soma or if he's near a magnet, Shanoa, you can float and wail on him repeatedly so hard. This is honestly the easiest and safest attack to wail on him with.
If you don't got a good timing down, you can use the typical martial arts tricks to get through it. Danger knee/foreward roll(Johnny), Tackle (Richter), or Omnia Vantus (Julius). I personally think it is just easier to time it and jump through. If hit by it while trying, remember, about 2-3 second invunerablility after being hit so gun through it soon as you land.
Six Layer - Death Scythe Sandwich:
When he stops and stays stationary and he isn't doing the red balls of what! He'll be spawning three death scythes on each side of one of the players within the game. The best way to dodge this is to go to the side that you're farthest away from it and duck under the first two that sweep over by you.
Now the third if it was far right and you're far left, you usually can duck it but thats rarely the case. It's duck, duck, jump over.
First two you duck under, third you jump over. It works if you learn the pattern and distance to avoid possibly jumping into the third if you're too far away. But it is simple to avoid this. Make sure if its around you, that you slide, you will walk into the lower one if you don't.
Note you can Medusa Head (Soma) high inbetween the the six and they'll swing downward and under you. If by chance they are around a magnet you can pull the magnet to make yourself be in the middle of them with Shanoa too. It's another, more dangerous way to do it. But safe if you're careful that Death doesn't fly into you while you're doing this or if you're Shanoa you get stuck on the magnet while he flies through causing yourself to get damage either way.
Death Scythe Sweep:
When he puts his Death Scythe to the ground and puts the point up towards you, he's gonna sweep it upwards and hit the player he's intending it for. If it's solo, it is very damn easy to dodge.
All you do to dodge when you're soloing him is wait for him to be near and then slide away. He'll swing up and miss you. The reason it's harder to dodge when you're playing with others is, he only swings upwards on the player he is after. If you slide and he's after the other player, he may just still walk into you and then swing at the other player. So best to be the player on the farthest side of the wall, so if he is after them they can dodge it while you are safe, if its after you, you still can dodge it without worry. As if no one is behind you, you know he's after you.
You can slide tight against the wall and still dodge the upwards slash. If you time it right. So no worries of no room to slide to.
Any of the whip users can abuse martial arts. I personally use tackle upon Death just as he's about to ht me (Richter has tackle) and it goes through, I do around 100+ dmg and take none due to the invinciblity frame. Julius' Omnia Vanitas goes through but doesn't do damage. Jonathan can with Sonic Strike but needs more timing. Though overall Richter benefits the most for this.
Hand Full Of Death Scythes:
The death scythes he summons are easily to wipe out with a valmanway, the "tickle/limp whip" with belmonts/morris(holding X and spinning it like a shield.), Charlotte's book weapon upgraded can do it too well if you jump and swipe them all, anything that hits widely, fast or just overall sweeping it. They are destoryed very easily.
Though jump kickers can just jump kick on the ball of death scythes and take no damage by bouncing off of them like its nothing.
Another suggestion is if he isn't tight to a wall. Slide under him and the death scythes, then wail on him from behind. While he summons the scythes he doesn't move, so its free hits if you want.
Alucard can use Soul Steal right on it and they'll die soon as they spawn.
Raining Death Scythes:
Again they are similar to the handful of them as they die easy. Alucard's Soul Steal is a wonderful shield against them. You could jump kick off them and over to the other side of Death if you can jump kick.
Blend them away with the valmanway, holbien dagger, etc.
Use the tickle/limp whip spinning around again.
Really this gets people but its easy to destory and take out.
Diving Impalement:
If he quickly and fastly goes directly above you, you'll have two seconds to slide one way or the other. He misses if you slide. It's the only move he goes extremely fast so if you see him pick up speed, you should be tipped off on it. It's about the only hit though that still gets me if I'm paying 100% attention as it comes on quick. He doesn't seem to do it too often but he'll get in a kick now and again , doing it a few times in a row even.
His Big Ass:
Not really an attack but he goes from left to right and such. He'll run into you so often. Also I see so many people back in the day go up on top of the higher platform and cast spells or use like RPG, etc. on the top of that small platform by the right door to Death's room. If you do that, he almost ALWAYS floats over there, sits his boney ass on your face, summoning the handful of scythes at others. This will usually kill you as he'll do multiple damage before you can get free if you don't have good armor or ancient armor even but just don't let him sit on you....it smells bad!
DISCLAIMER: I mostly play hard so this is from pure memory which fits Hard the most. I will edit the differences if any are required.

Shortcuts
Purple Chests ( 3 )
Water of Life ( 4 )
1) Pendulum Water Of Life
Between the Pendulums above the medusa head cog room, and below the spike area with the fire trap purple chest just above that.
