Do either of these skills heal more after being leveled or is the duration just increased. Every once in awhile I can get +2 health from DM blood, but it's usually just 1, and sometimes it backfires and I get hit for 30 anyway.
Soul Steal is useless at lv 1 except for ghosts and the dragon skulls that just sit in place. It's payday when there is a tall stack of them :-)

For Dark metamorphosis i recommend useing a valmaway. You can heal faster with this weapon. Soul steal can be found in chapter 6. Dark metamorphosis can be found in chapter 3 from trolls. And yep the more you have the better.

Valmanways are too long to have a good synergy with Dark Metamorphosis. You gotta get really close with that spell. Soul Steal always only heals 1, but deals more damage with each copy you find.
You can check the character guide section and specifically the Alucard guide to find out where the spells drop, and what exactly they do.

Necroing a bit, sorry, but just saying Holbein Dagger likely is the best weapon to use if you wish to just heal yourself with Dark Metamorphosis. The dagger hits very fast at close range for quite little damage so plenty of blood gets spilled and you heal a bunch. Also, Bloodstones multiply the amount of healing you get from blood if you really like to go that far.
Soul Steal can still be useful at late levels when it's at full level as an added bonus damage against big targets or mobs, and as a defensive tool (For example, it destroys Ryukotsuki's , Ch 10 boss's, projectiles). Dark Metamorphosis loses its effect completely during later chapters when there's far less enemies which bleed, Ch 10 and 11 having none at all.
