Both standard (Green/Blue/Purple) chests, and Boss Chests.
Obviously, there are drop lists for each of those chests based on the stage and the difficulty level. My question is - what actually influences your chances of getting better items out of those chests? I've seen a lot of contradictory information around, and I figure you folks are the experts!
So :
Luck Thief Ring's "increased chance of finding rare items" Completion Time (for boss chests) Damage-Free clear (for boss chests)
What helps? If anything.
I have noticed that I grind for a while before seeing a particular item, then that item starts showing up all the time, as if having found one increases your chances somehow. Is that true, or am I just seeing confirmation bias?
If completion time helps, is it measured at the moment you open the chest, or the moment you kill the boss, spawning the chest?

Lemme try and clear it up here....
~What Luck Does~ Increases chances of enemy drops. (Soul included) Increases chance of learning spell/glyph Affects normal chest drops only
~What Luck Doesn't Do~ Affect Boss Chests
Read all the contradictory information you'll want, but luck does NOT affect the boss chest. The only luck is in the general sense that someone got coincidence.
Theif Rings and Ebisu Rainments are meant to help you get normal drops better. Soul Eater Rings have a special property for the unique soul-type drops, and does NOT affect boss chests either. (But it does affect Mini-bosses) If you see people brag about finally getting Fuma gear or a Custros with luck gear, it's only because purple chests are indeed affected.
Completion Time is not a factor. Damage-Free clear is not a factor.
I even ran with 0 Luck back in the day and got my rares just as fast as any other vet out there.

Excellent! So in what way does luck effect normal chest drops? Is there a list of 'good stuff' and a list of 'eh stuff', and luck bumps up your chance of selecting from the higher list?

I'm not one of those people who did the extreme calculations of it, but the luck gear raises the percentage of all drops higher, so the game has a higher chance of randomly pulling out the 'good stuff', although 'eh stuff' can still appear at times.

Hm. That sounds basically like a yes.
What I'm thinking is :
The chance of getting SOME item from a chest is 100%. Meaning the probabilities of getting each item on the drop list, when added together, is 100%, because you always get an item, and only one item. For luck to help you find good stuff, it has to increase the chances of the good stuff - but to do that, it has to decrease the chances of the not-good stuff. Because the total is always 100%.

It'd be interesting to open a chest and get nothing....

Someone found that the Gambler's Glasses aren't exactly accurate in that I'm afraid. I can't remember what method they did, but they hacked some sort've stat in a way that the Gambler Glasses showed a 0% soul drop chance on some monster, and yet still got the drop. Can't remember who it was though... might have to ask Rommulous if he ever surfaces again.

Is that so? If you can find the original thread or something, that'd be cool, I wanna see this.
