I thought the attributes at the bottom were magic defense i.e. resistance to certain elements...

You're right, but you can think of those as an additional damage modifier. The MND stat is your base defense for magic.

alright, bc I was trying to make an MP reg. build, but I didnt know how to discern(spelling?) between good MP reg. items... Still dont know why Paludamentum has better MP reg. than Benten Raiment =/

In my opinion, an MP regeneration setup is useless, unless it's on Char, Yoko, Maria, Soma, and maybe Shanoa. My current setup for Charlotte is as follows:
Holy Veil Robe Decolette Sonic Boots/Artemis Shoes(Depends on the speed of the party) Bishamon Raiment Artemesian/Apollonian Rings
My basic philosophy on character construction is balance. If you go absolute regen and switch out the Atemisian/Apollonian Rings with two Chaos Rings, you may gain some crazy regen, but you lose spell power. You need to have enough power to reliably kill enemies before you use too much MP. So, you see, there is a balance.
