My build until I get Claimh +1, Mura +1, etc. for Soma:
Muramasa Valmanway Final Guard Minotaur
Yorick Warg Puppet Master Ukoback
Dragon Helm Dracula's Tunic Winged Boots(until i get sonic boots) Crimson Cloak Miser Ring (Only have one so far) Apollonian/Artemisian ring (use 2 if you dont have any misers) Super Potion
Muramasa for use on enemies resistant to multi-hit weapons, Val for everything else.
Final Guard lets me avoid attacks in a pinch when fighting R. The Count.
Yorick because I cant live without it.
Warg tears R. Phantom Bat and R. Queen Medusa apart.
Puppet master for avoiding traps and glitching.
I use Ukoback on R. The Count's head when he is blinking before he is hittable if I can, it stacks with attacks from Muramasa; and 2nd form when he stops for a few seconds before he shoots a pinwheel of fireballs.

I've had success with Alucurd. His mist form is a great last resort for dodging R. Count's fireballs. This is what I equip. Muramasa - for boss battles Valmanway +1 - for stage clearing Samurai Helmet Ancient Armor Crimson Cloak Miser Ring or Meningiord Miser Ring or ...
That worked great to learn his pattern. Once I was more comfortable and looking for retro gear I started using Julius with the following set up:
Simons gear Ancient Armor Miser rings
Counts first form is easy to evade, however for the pinwheel fireballs on his second form you might need to jump kick straight down through the fireballs if you can't duck and jump the different waves. Still not fool proof, so it helps to have friends in co-op for extra super potions and water of life :-{D

This is what use for Chapter 10 with:
* Soma: - Valmanway (or +1), then Muramasa (or +1) (Use it until you get to the boss, then switch the weapon when it comes to dealing with both forms of the R. Count) - Valmanway (or +1) (Same as above, but you don't have to switch this weapon) - Dragon Helm (Comes in handy when dealing with the sturdy enemies that are on this level) - Dracula's Tunic (Nice overall boost, nothing more) - Sonic Boots (Able to move a lot faster, and a nice overall stat boost) - Bishamon's Raiment (Handy when it comes to using souls) - Miser Ring (Helps with weapon damage) - Miser Ring (Same as above)
* Honorable Mentions: - Samurai Helmet (An alternative to Dragon Helm, but seems more useful for chapter 1 to 7) - Berserker Mail (If you know what you are doing, this will be very useful, otherwise it will cause a lot of problems) - Crimson Cloak (Decent overall stat boost, very useful when used alongside with Berserker Mail) - Appollonian/Artemisian Ring (If you don't have a lot of gold, then this would be better than the Miser Ring)
- Final Guard (Handy when you can't dodge the R. Count's Fireball on time) - Succubus (Not great during the fight with the boss, but at least you get a bit of recovery)
* Honorable Mentions: - R. Medusa Head/Medusa Head (Only if you are using Yorick) - Minotaur (Can be used instead of succubus for the boss if the healing isn't that great to you, and works very well with Berserker Mail) - Treant (If you frequently use your souls)
- Fish Head (Neat soul for damaging most enemies) - R. Count (My favorite soul, and it can deal more damage than Fish Head if used properly) - Ryokotsuki (Has the highest damage for 1 hit, and a close range alternative to R. Count from my point of view) - Yorick, then Puppet Master (Yorick is to get a chest in case a Shanoa or other players that know how to get up there are not available at the time, otherwise just stick with Puppet Master for avoiding traps & using the elevator glitch)
* Honorable Mentions: - Warg (Great damage, but terrible range) - R. Axe-Man (Good for dealing with enemies above you) - Black Leopard/Pejora's Mask (Good for clearing enemies, especially after you successfully performed the elevator glitch) - Witch (Decent soul to hit enemies you can't reach)
=======================================================================
* Alucard should use the same equipment as Soma, but the spells are up to you, since all of them hardly have any major advantage other than Summon Spirit/Tetra Spirit to hit enemies you can't reach.
=======================================================================
* Whip Users (Richter is the character I use for this chapter): - Fuma's Helm (Gives a nice boost of MP regen, and nice overall stat boost) - Fuma's Armor (Same as above, but better effect and overall stat boost) - Fuma's Greaves (Not as good as the Sonic boots in speed and lacks the HP boost, but provides a better overall stat boost in comparison, and a bit higher MP boost. The speed is equal to the Winged Boots) - Retro Cloak (Great overall stat boost, and a neat sub-weapon damage boost) - Miser Ring (Great weapon damage, assuming you have lots of gold) - Miser Ring (Same as above)
* Honorable Mentions: - Retro Gear (The helmet & boots are inferior to the Fuma version, unless you like the HP & Luck boost, but the Armor is an alternative if you don't mind sacrificing some MP Regen for sub-weapon damage boost). - Simon's Gear (Most of it is outclassed by the Retro set, but it does provide better HP & defense, especially the cloak) - Berserker Mail (If you know what you are doing, this will be very useful, otherwise it will cause a lot of problems) - Sonic Boots (If you prefer a HP boost & a slightly faster character) - Bishamon Raiment (If you like to further increase your MP Regen, but its overkill with the Fuma Gear from my point of view) - Appollonian/Artemisian Ring (If you don't have a lot of gold, then this would be better than the Miser Ring) - Chaos Ring (Same reason as Bishamon Raiment)
- R. Dagger (Awesome when used with the backdash cancel trick, and great for clearing enemies) - R. Axe (Great for dealing with enemies above you) - Cross (Good for dealing multiple hits if used properly, and works well against R. Count) - R. Fire Bomb (Great for dealing heavy damage to enemies on the ground)
* Honorable Mentions: - Axe (Easier to hit enemies above you than the R. Axe, not as strong and cost 2 more MP) - Bible (Good for dealing with enemies you can't reach at the moment) - R. Boomerang (Deals more damage than the Cross and cost 3 less MP, but sacrifices speed & range when going forward)
=======================================================================
- I can't say much for the other characters, since I'm not proficient with them for chapter 10, but if anyone cares to know my recommendations for them, just let know. Also, sorry for the long post on my recommendations.

hi I'm from Brazil, do not have much experience in the game and suffer a lot in time to face the Count, I saw on youtube about the acceleration glitch with the skill of the puppet, it still works on the ps3 version?
sorry if I typed my question in the wrong place

The acceleration glitch involving the puppet master and the elevator does work as well for the PS3 version of HoD.

If you're new to the game, i suggest to get Ancient Armor first, besides, its easier to get than Dracula's tunic.
