Hastily thrown together. I just started playing through VIII again and I was feeling nostalgic.

Overall, it'd be FFIX for me, with FFIV a close second. That might change in the new fangled PSP release of FFIV, but until I actually get to play it, it'll be FFIX.
Honorable mentions go to FFVII, FFX, and FFT.

I've never played any of them. I just don't traditionally like those types of games.

Two votes for IX (not counting you, Raze)? That is a bit surprising. It is a good game, don't get me wrong, diverted the series back to it's roots.
Keep 'em coming, I wanna hear from the haters too. How does a Castlevania-centric community feel about turn based RPG's?

I have played FFI, Mystic Quest, FFIV, FFV, FFVII, FFT, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, and FFXIII. Of those, I have beaten Mystic Quest, FFIV, FFVII, FFT, FFIX, and FFX. Here are some problems I had with each:
FFI: As someone who couldn't play this during its heyday, FFI was unbearably slow for me. Random battles didn't take long because they were challenging (though your initial party members barring the Fighter will have a lot of trouble), the game just took a long time to process and show everything. I don't have that kind of patience anymore.
Mystic Quest: This game was supposedly designed for people new to RPGs. I wasn't the target audience when I was playing it. I still had fun, but it's a pretty barebones experience, and not what someone thinks of when they think Final Fantasy.
FFIV: I played this game through Chronicles on the PS1. Challenging, a rigid class system, and a good story. The only thing that held this back from the top spot for me was its presentation; as much as I hate people judging games based solely on graphics, I think some shinier graphics would add some more punch to the dramatic events.
FFV: I don't like customizable character classes very much (with the exception of FFT); I'm never sure how long I should keep each character in whatever classes I have them in, and I feel that the bosses suffer since you have to make sure that most class combinations (barring the REALLY stupid combinations) can defeat said boss. Or you can just give a great big middle finger to the player, forcing them to grind some more due to poor class choices.
FFVII: The first one I played, and still one I like a lot. It's just by the endgame, I tend to have everyone geared for the same roles, the only difference being what magic/summons/limit breaks they have. I might as well have 3 Clouds.
FFT: The only thing that holds this one back was the wonky translation, making the plot harder to follow than it probably should have. I also tried WOTL, but that slowdown for just about EVERY SINGLE ABILITY killed it for me.
FFVIII: I didn't care for the setting much, money was weird, and it seemed like it had similar role problems that FFVII had. I saw my brother beat the final boss, and that was just stupidly long.
FFX: I don't like the setting much, though that didn't stop me from liking the story. The voice acting was pretty bad too, and kinda takes away from the experience for me (Tidus was especially lulzy for me). Still, it has my favorite battle system; I really liked having full access everyone, and I liked how certain monster took certain characters to defeat them.
FFX-2: See FFV.
FFXII: See FFV. Also, the weapons got exponentially more expensive, but the amount of money for each thing you sold seemed to stay the same. Didn't like Vaan either.
FFXIII: I like the battle system. I'm not sure if it deserves all the hate it's gotten, but it is pretty far from my favorite in the series. Didn't like Hope either.

ive beaten every numbered game except for 11 and 12 and I would say 6 is my favorite. Chrono Trigger became my favorite rpg, but 6 was the first i fell in love with.

I would vote for: ALL OF THEM. *fanboy* I would post my reasons, but I'm not very good at that. I will post though, that every one of the games in the series had a lot of good points in them.

I'm a big fan of class/job systems, so Final Fantasy V is one of my favorites, along with Final Fantasy Tactics. Honorable mentions go to IV, VI, VIII and IX.
