I just recently got the game and I was wondering. What Dlc characters are worth getting if any? or all of them good in their own way?

I'll summarize the ones I've played for you.
Maria- A more mobile spellcaster than Charlotte, loads of crowd control, but not a great boss killer. She has the best spellcaster melee, a hunter skill that makes her take 50% damage when active, and jumpkick. Blessed with an incredibly small hitbox. Also, toes.
Yoko- The exact opposite of Maria in ways, she has extremely powerful close-range boss killer spells. She has almost no long range options though. She has the second best melee, but just by a smidge over Charlotte. She has no hunter skill. I don't enjoy her very much.
Fuma- As far as I can tell, he is a hybrid of melee and spells. I haven't put much time into him, ask someone else.
As for Richter, Julius, and Simon. I have almost no playtime on them. I won't comment.

You could read the character guides, which break them down for the most part.
To give you the essence: Maria: Easy character to start out with, but difficult character to master due to the weird hitboxes on her spells and her terrible MP regeneration (i.e. needs quite a bit of advanced equipment). Also hard to level up, even with Survival.
Yoko: The nuke in high heels. She is everything your stereotypical mage is supposed to be: destroy everything in your path. She lacks mobility options and needs her Holy Flame to supplement (or even replace) her terrible melee attack. What Raze says is not true, by the way, Yoko does have good ranged attacks (where'd you get she's not good at a range? lol). She has probably one of the best if not the best dual crush in the game, too.
Fuma: Allrounder with great crowd control and damage output if used correctly. One of the highest attack speeds, but his terrible sword range makes him a bit less useful in most cases. Also has the best sliding animation hands down.
As for the whip wielders... Where Jonathan is the subweapon guy, Richter is the martial arts guy (lots of mobility, combos and damage output, he easily rivals Somanway in these regards). Julius is the more defensive whip user. Also recommended if you loved Super Castlevania IV. Simon is essentially what he always was. A tiny 8-Bit man with a whip. His whip gets longer as you power him up. He has the highest damage output, the fastest subweapon and whipping speeds and his small hurtbox makes him a good character to avoid shit with.
So there you go.

Well I have been going with Jonathan a lot about 10 hours already and I did try out alucard. So I think I might be going for Julius personally I've tried using Jonathan's martial arts and I'm not very good at them just the fact I have to push Y to execute them sometimes get's me to attack either with X Hopefully I'll get better with them with practice But Julius and Fuma might be my first choices Since I'm getting so much whip user stuff already and I'll be working on them. And Magic users I'm still a bit more iffy I like trying to get into the fray and wanting to learn how to dodge attacks and becoming useful in the fight. lol

IMO get everything. I enjoy playing all the characters. They are all different in their own way. As for the levels, the more you have the more variety there is, and there will be more games for you to join in multiplayer. I've had this game since release and play it nearly everyday, and still have a ways to go before being completely finished with everything.

Sure she thrashes in close to medium range, but I don't like how you have to be in the enemies face for maximum effectiveness with ALL her attacks.

Well I hope to eventually get them all but I mean already spent 40 bucks this week getting the game all the maps along with julius and fuma a little after talking to a lot of you guys. I will play every character eventually but when I started this I was interested in opinions first so I wouldn't just buy them all and then test them all instead of just playing and enjoying the game.

Hey, I was in your group last night. After observing your play-style, I believe Julius would be the best fit for ya. His only Martial Arts moves are the Uppercut and Omnia Vanitas. As such, he is less dependent on Martial Arts combos and more dependent on sub-weapons and whipping. Once you get comfortable with them though, Omnia Vanitas and his Whip Swing skill will afford ya some extra mobility. Hope that helps and good luck on your drops!
EDIT: Oops, posted a little late. Oh well, good choice on your DLC!

Oh yea I got Julius mostly because Jonathan requires a lot of work to get his sub-weapons up especially his bad ones like paper-airplane and grenade my opinion. And Julius has so little I can use the cross and holy water without guilt Jonathan I'm gonna grind by myself but for teams I'll stick with Julius.
